This unique former wheelhouse is a fabulous semi-detached cottage sitting on the Barton village green alongside the babbling Barton Beck, a beautiful location for a peaceful countryside getaway with friends. This charming abode was built in the 1850s, and maintains traditional character with many original features of the former wheelhouse․ It is the inspiration for the illustration by the famous artist Rodney Matthews, entitled 'The Retreat'. The features include a spectacular beamed ceiling, and parts of the original workings, adding to the immense charm and quirkiness of this homely cottage.
