Amble has a working harbour with a popular Sunday morning market, ideal for sourcing fresh local food, and popular with visitors and locals. There are little shopping pods set next to the harbour, so you can peruse these too and chat to their friendly owners. After a busy day of exploring, finish off at one of the nearby restaurants along the harbour. The shops in Amble are varied with a large supermarket nearby and plenty of local bakers, butchers and bespoke shops.
Take a walk along the estuary to Warkworth, around 2 miles, that takes you past the marina. Upon entering Warkworth, the castle is one of the first things you see, set at the top of the pretty village with its riverside walks and a couple of very good cafés and pubs. Nearby Alnwick is a great day out where you can stop off at the castle, famed for its use in Harry Potter scenes, and the Duchess gardens, all popular places to visit.
Carry on up the coast to Craster, famous for its smoked kippers, then take a walk along the cliffs to Dunstanburgh Castle. From there, travel up to Seahouses, an old fashioned seaside retreat, then on up to Holy Island.
