Summary:
Dating back to the 17th century, Gablebach was renovated in Victorian times with brick giving the building an eclectic quirky quality. Most recently renovated in 2023, this cottage located in the village of Llangadog can accomodate up to three guests and boasts an open-plan living and dining area, fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, along with outdoor space including a patio with shrubs and ample parking space for several vehicles.
The Space:
Gablebach as a property is classic vintage in designed, perfectly combining traditional and modern elements. The furniture inside the property is mostly antique, from the 1920’s bed to the small Welsh Dresser which have been selected to provide a luxurious holiday experience.
The lounge is open plan with a calming decor, exposed stone flooring and exposed traditional beams which create a relaxing cottage feel with a comfortable leather sofa and chairs. Additional period features and antiques create a wonderful space to relax after a day of exploring. Enjoy peaceful evenings in front of the wood burner with a glass of wine and a good book or relax and watch your favourite TV programmes.
The kitchen is a country-style space with oak beams, ledge and doors. The kitchen is a shade of green with an Aga oven providing that cottage feel but there is also an induction hob for convenience. The room is fully equipped with a fridge freezer and dishwasher, plus essential utensils and cookware.
The master bedroom, located directly at the top of the stairs, is exquisitely decorated with traditional Welsh cottage-style floorboards and a interior decor showing off the pretty colours of typical Cotswold cottages. The French antique bed takes pride of place, while other quirky features include a dressing table, an antique chest of drawers and a desk with bookcase. There are also hooks to hang clothes softer than soft bedding and beautiful velvet and silk soft furnishings creating an elegant space to ensure a blissful nights’ sleep.
The ensuite bathroom has an antique vanity unit, copper slipper bathtub and WC. Here you will find soft towels, bathrobes and slippers for you to use during your stay. Relax in the bath at the end of the day with a glass of wine and watch the stars.
The second bedroom is small but beautifully decorated with another antique bed and a vintage power shower making this room perfect for children or solo travellers in your party.
Step outside onto the patio and enjoy breakfast al fresco whilst taking in the view across the valley or gaze at the stunning red sunsets above the cottage with a drink in the evening.

The Neighborhood:
You’ll be spoilt for choice in terms of nearby attractions when staying in Llangadog. Carreg Cennen Castle has a long history dating back to the 13th century with archaeological evidence that the Romans and prehistoric peoples occupied the site earlier. There is a Prehistoric cave dwelling that runs beneath Carreg Cennen Castle so you will need a torch.
Perched on a hilltop above the Tywi Valley, Dinefwr Castle occupies a significant position in Welsh . In the 12th century it was in the possession of Lord Rhys, ruler of ancient South Wales who created peace and stability and a period of Welsh culture, music and poetry.
Standing within the Dinefwr estate is the Grade II listed Newton House which was the home of the dependents of The Lord Rhys. It is now cared for by the National Trust and is well worth a visit as it dates back to 1660 and was built by Edward Rice. The current gothic facade dates from the 1850’s but many of the original features can still be seen. There is a beautiful tea room and wonderful gardens as well as a second hand book shop.
Explore the only known Roman gold mine in Britain, Dolaucothi Mines. The unique mines are located in the wooded hillsides of the Cambrian mountains overlooking the beautiful Cothi valley. They are also known as the Ogofau Gold Mine.
Llyn y Fan Fach & Llyn y Fan Fawr are glacial lakes and Llyn y Fan Fawr is situated beneath Picws Du mountain and is well known for its’s Welsh Folklore known as “the lady of the lake” and her sons known as “the physicians of Mydffai and became the physicians of the English royal court.
Aberglasney Gardens are well known from the programme ‘A garden lost in time’ which followed the restoration and has a fully restored Elizabethan Cloister Garden that is the only surviving garden of its kind in the UK. There are 10 acres of many different styles of gardens, from formal to exotic and the fully restored ground floor, grade II listed mansion which holds many different exhibitions and events.
Henrhyd Falls is located in the Brecon Beacons National Park and is the tallest waterfall in South Wales with a 90-foot drop. It lies on National Trust land and is truly spectacular, especially after a period of heavy rain.
The site is located on a motte and Bailey so visitors interested in Wales or Welsh Heritage will love the location. Also is a designated dark sky area of the country, the list of reasons to stay here goes on.

The nearest train station to Llangadog can be found in Llandovery where there are regular routes to Ammanford, Llanwrtyd Wells, Pontarddulais, Llanelli, Swansea, Llandrindod Wells, Knighton, Church Stretton and Shrewsbury.
One bus route can be found in Llangadog. Hop on the 280 to visit Carmarthen, Llandovery and Llandelio.
The nearest airport is Cardiff, 70 miles away from Llangadog.
