The area is renowned for its green hills and mountains, castles such as medieval Powis Castle and gardens (National Trust), museums and the Montgomery Canal. Europe's leading eco-centre is situated at Machynlleth, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) aims to "inspire, inform and enable people" to live more sustainably.
