The seaside town of Whitley Bay itself is home to artisan bakeries, boutique shops, trendy restaurants, and a sandy beach, as well as the Whitley Bay Playhouse theatre, and a bustling promenade. Other local attractions include the Northumberland National Park with a range of scenic walks, St Mary's Lighthouse on the remote St Mary's Island, and the Spanish City Dome. The cottage is 33 miles from Alnwick which is an ideal location for exploring the Northumberland coast and city locations. Alternatively, visit the vibrant university city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and explore the picturesque St James' Park, views along the River Tyne along the Quayside, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, and the Discovery Museum - not to mention the lively party scene. Whitley Bay is a seaside town on the North East coast of England. For most of the 19th century, the town was a mining and fishing settlement, however it has since been reborn as a popular holiday resort, with tourists flocking to enjoy the sights and attractions, including the two mile stretch of stunning golden sand along the North Sea Coast. The town has much to offer the tourists, including quaint independent shops, fun-filled arcades as well as the local attraction, Spanish City, a remarkable dining and leisure centre, originally built in 1910 as a concert hall and painted to look like a Spanish village.
