Set in the quiet hamlet of Portling the apartment is within easy reach of other popular destinations on the Solway Firth including Sandyhills beach, Colvend, Rockcliffe and Kippford. There is a restaurant and bar at Sandyhills and a village shop and cafe at Colvend; Kippford has two popular pubs both serving food and also a tea room. The bustling village of Kippford is a sailing centre which ensures that there is always something to watch while taking sustenance at one of the two hostelries.
South Scotland is famous for its beautiful scenery and surprisingly mild climate due to the effects of the Gulf Stream. The area abounds with Scottish culture and history with too many sites to mention. Three which should not be missed would include Sweetheart Abbey at New Abbey, Threave Gardens and Castle at Castle Douglas and slightly further afield Logan Botanic Gardens together with the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse. The area also has superb outdoor recreational facilities and opportunities with wildlife and bird watching almost wherever you are and in particular the RSPB Mersehead Reserve at Southwick, Galloway Forest Park for both wildlife watching and also walking and mountain biking.
